General information:

The Utopian Malachite Mine, also known as the Aldmoor Point Mine, is a mining operation located on the southeastern coast of Eastedge Islet, in Lochburn County. It is one of the oldest industrial sites still in operation across the Grand Utopia of America archipelago. Its wealth comes from a unique deposit of Utopian malachite — a precious green stone with bluish opalescent reflections.

History

Discovered in 1673 by explorer Malcolm Victor Alamour, the stone attracted the attention of British merchant Bartholomew Grinslade, who had recently settled in Port Utopia. In 1674, the two men jointly founded the "Grinslade & Alamour Extraction Company," the territory's first formal enterprise, to exploit this vein.

The mine grew rapidly, becoming the economic heart of Aldmoor Point. After several periods of modernization — masonry galleries, ventilation systems, mechanization — it has remained in near-continuous operation to this day.

Current operations

Contemporary activity

Since the early 21st century, the mine has been operated by the international company Coastline Mining, specializing in the extraction of high-value resources. The company holds an exclusive concession on the deposit. Approximately 250 to 300 kg of raw Utopian malachite are extracted each year.

Site access

The mine is not open to the public for safety reasons. However, its surroundings are visible from several coastal hiking trails, and exhibition projects are underway at the Eastedge Community Park visitor center.

A marked hiking path, crossing part of the mine's property, remains open to the public provided visitors stay strictly on the designated route. The trail is discreet, running through wooded areas without direct access to the mining infrastructure.

Site organization

The modern operational site is divided into four main zones:
