Overview

The Historic GU Routes Foundation (HGRF) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and restoration of the country’s most iconic roadways. Founded in 1994, shortly after the modernization of the Utopian highway network, the foundation was created to safeguard the heritage of old routes that once shaped the nation’s identity and connected its distant regions.

Mission

The foundation’s mission is to maintain and highlight the cultural, historical, and scenic value of classic highways such as the GU Route 66, the Ivory Trail, or the Coastal Scenic Road. It supports local initiatives, installs commemorative signage, and works with regional authorities to promote tourism along former routes.

Impact

Since its creation, the HGRF has helped restore dozens of vintage motels, diners, and road markers across multiple counties. It has become a key player in the country’s heritage tourism strategy, turning once-forgotten detours into living museums of the Utopian past.
